Hood Park Mural
A crowd gathered Thursday to celebrate the completion of the Mural Project at Hood Park in Concordia. From top left to bottom right: Kim Muff, Kenton LeBlanc, Marian Condray, Brenda Gilliland, Gena Kern, Angel Kerr, Jasmine Conner, Cody Schmitz, Amy Lang, Theresa Bonebrake and Josh Meyer. The mural was painted by local artist Cody Schmitz and sponsored by the local chapter of Rotary International. While there will be a few more protective coatings added to mural, the artwork is now complete.
1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley held the 1st Infantry Division Change of Command
FORT RILEY, Kan. (WIBW) - Fort Riley and the 1st Infantry Division hosted a change in command Friday morning on base. A change of command ceremony provided a send-off for Maj. Gen. John Meyer and welcomed incoming division commander Maj. Gen. Monté Rone. Maj. Gen. Rone has spent time on bases in Colorado, Texas, and many other states during his 34 years with the Army. He said he’s excited to meet those in Fort Riley and the surrounding community.

Linda M. Harding
Linda M. Harding, 84, of Lindsborg, KS and formerly of Abilene, KS, peacefully passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024, surrounded by family at Bethany Home, Lindsborg. Linda was born on November 25, 1939, in Lindsborg, KS, the daughter of Carl Martin “Haggie” and Emily Mercedes (Train) Hagstrand. She graduated from Lindsborg Rural High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Bethany College. She later received her master’s degree from Kansas State University. Linda started her elementary teaching career in Colby, KS. She taught kindergarten for 24 years at Rural Center Elementary School near Abilene, KS before retiring in 1999.

GEARY COUNTY —One person was injured in an accident at Milford Lake on Wednesday. Just after noon, emergency crews responded to East Rolling Hills at Milford Lake after report of a man struck by a boat propeller while in the water, according to a media release from Geary County Emergency Management.
Several 4th of July events expected across the region over the next week
A number of 4th of July events will be going across the region over the next few days. In Wamego, the famous Boomtown show will be taking place on Jul. 4 with fireworks beginning at 10 pm. Prior to the show on Thursday, the city carnival and dunk tank will be open from Friday until next Thursday from 6 to 10 pm every evening. The Boomtown Pyrotechnic team will join KMAN’s AJ Shaw on KMAN’s In Focus on Friday morning for the full hour beginning at 9:06.
