Float Parade to be Held in Honor of Clay County Fair’s 150th Anniversary, Public Invited to Enter Their Own Floats
The Clay County Fair will have a fair parade this year in celebration of the fair’s 150th anniversary. The parade will start at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 22, behind Lincoln Elementary School in Clay Center. It will head east to 12th St., continue south on 12th St. to Harriet St., then head east, then south, passing the livestock barns on the Clay County Fairgrounds. The parade will continue south and end behind the Clay County Exhibit Building.
Fireworks Sales Begin on July 1 in Concordia
Fireworks can be legally sold and discharged in the City of Concordia, beginning at 6 am on Monday, July 1st. Concordia City Manager Amy Lange says city ordinances state fireworks may only be set off, discharged or exploded during the time when fireworks are permitted to be sold in the city limits.

Fay Ann Sechtem, age 85, entered into rest on June 18, 2024, at Park Villa Nursing Home in Clyde, Kansas. She was born on February 3, 1939, in Omaha, Nebraska to Ernest and Olga (Hansen) Thomas. Fay was a graduate of Russell High School, Russell, Kansas, Class of 1957. She received her bachelor’s degree in education at Kearney State College in 1972.
Clay Center Fire Department Responds To Gas Leak on Lincoln St.
According to a press release, the Clay Center Fire Department was dispatched to 220 W Lincoln St for a gas leak on Tuesday, June 18. Units arrived at 10:35 a.m. and were met by the residents. The pair said the husband had been digging a hole to repair a broken fence that was connected to a greenhouse.

Grow Clay County and committee launch fundraising campaign to expand project
Clay Center, KS – Grow Clay County and the Multi-Generation Life Center Steering Committee are excited to announce the launch of a fundraising campaign aimed at expanding the Life Center Project. This expansion will include an additional gym, a walking track, a turf area, as well as enhancements to the community portion of the center adding 16,351 square feet to the facility, as well as the purchase of essential equipment. The groups has set a goal to raise an additional $4 million to turn this vision into a reality.

Each weekday, Monday through Friday, USD 428 Food Service will provide meals for all children 18 years of age and younger in the gyms at participating elementary school locations from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children will be provided with a to-go lunch and a breakfast pack for the next morning.
Junior Legion team falls to JC by 1
The Clay Center Junior Legion 16&U Tigers lost by 1 point to the Junction City’s Upper Dec 17&U team on Tuesday, falling 11-12. The Tigers first got points on the board, scoring four runs in the first inning. A single hit by Abram Stratton drove in the first run, scored by Miller Coffman, who walked. Carter Graham scored the second run after walking and scoring on a wild pitch. Rylan Gurney and Hayden Cyr both reached first base on an error and Gurney’s hit brought in Stratton. Cyr scored on a throw just before Levi Willman walked.
