Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad is proving to be popular
The Abilene and Smoky Valley Railroad is experiencing its best summer in the organization’s 31 year history. At the conclusion of the long Independence Day weekend, the A&SV has hauled 6,233 passengers so far this year, compared to just over 3,000 a year ago at this time, and 1,500 for the same period in 2022. The A&SV has drawn passengers from five countries, 37 states, and 246 Kansas communities. The passenger totals reflect ridership on A&SV excursion, dinner, and charter trains. “We’ve been overwhelmed,” said A&SV President Ross Boelling, citing increased marketing efforts and an ambitious 2024 schedule that featured running more trains than in previous seasons as reasons for the uptick in passenger totals.

Clay Center, Kansas – “I will never forgive him!” Have you ever said that about someone who deeply hurt you? When someone lies, abuses or uses you – it hurts. Meaning, because of what they have done, they owe you something to try and make things right.

College Packing: What to Bring & What to Leave at Home
Packing for a new school year at college – whether it’s your first or fourth year – can be an ordeal. There are often questions of what you can really fit in the car, or the new dorm, or the apartment. Considering what chores you will need to do, how much cooking your meal plan might require of you, and whether you have room for a TV or a couch can all add items to your packing list. Sometimes, it comes down to making tough decisions of “what to pack” and “what not to pack.” While incoming freshman may find this list helpful during their first time packing for college, students of any age can use it to remind themselves what they’ll definitely need to bring – or definitely won’t need to bring!
