Commission discusses dogs in park, selling land
On July 8, Clay County Commissioners discussed dogs running at large on county property and selling another piece of county property. County Attorney Joel Mason that it was brought to his attention this last weekend that dogs have been running at large in Clay County Park in Wakefield. Park rules state that all dogs are to be on leashes while in the park and a rental agreement is to be signed by each camper that states they will follow the rules of the Park.

Industry native connecting pieces of hometown’s history
For Industry, Kansas native Robert Wayman, penning a book about his hometown was something that he has been enthusiastic about since his youth. He was the kid that always asked that infamous “why” question. Growing up in this somewhat retirement community, there were plenty of stories to be heard, and Robert, he loved hearing them. And now, years later, that passion has blossomed into reality, a book entitled “Industry, Kansas, Blurring the Line between Clay and Dickinson” a title that was inspired by an article in a 1914 copy of the Clay Center Dispatch.

New Owner Re-Opens G.R. Parkers Saloon
G.R. Parkers Saloon in Bennington is getting a second lease on life, and is back open again with a new owner, a deep clean ,and additions of Mexican cuisine to the menu. Every story has a beginning, and it started with selling tacos on the driveway. Owner Vanessa Corona says she wanted to bring her Mexican food recipes to Bennington. Corona started making food for people at the comfort of her own home and received positive feedback. She says many of her customers stated that she should start her own restaurant. Rusty Leister, the previous owner of G.R. Parkers, terminated the lease and Corona took this as an opportunity to bring her Mexican culture to the Saloon.

Pre-Cloud County Fair Judging Begins
The 2024 Cloud County Fair officially runs July 16th through July 20th, but several pre-fair activities took place this week. On Wednesday, July 10th, 4-H members had projects judged in the Commercial Building at the Cloud County Fairgrounds in Concordia. Pre-fair judging included Sewing & Fiber Arts, Shopping in Style, Arts & Crafts, Reading, Wildlife, Posters, Individual Projects and Veterinary Sciences.
Clay Center Tiger Sharks Close Out Season Competing in Kansas-Nebraska Swim League Championship
On Saturday, June 29, the Clay Center Tiger Sharks Swim Team closed out their season by competing in the Kansas-Nebraska Swim League Championship Champs Meet. The Tigersharks traveled to Fairbury, Nebraska to compete against teams from Concordia, Kansas, and Beatrice, Crete, Fairbury, Seward, Wilber, and York, Nebraska. The meet had 60 events, over 300 participants, and over 900 entries.
