Minor arrested in deadly Gallia County shooting, victim identified

Public's help needed in investigation of arsons
COLUMBUS — Investigators with the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of State Fire Marshal (SFM), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Gallia County and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Offices are asking for the public’s help in identifying those responsible for at least four fires that destroyed churches in Gallia and Lawrence Counties, including three that have occurred since May 10, 2024. Fatal accident In PIke County
Newton Township — On August 5, 2024, at approximately 5:34 p.m. the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on state Route 32 at Smokey Hollow Road. Valerie L. Hagan, age 42, of Beaver, Ohio, was a passenger in a vehicle that was traveling on Smokey Hollow Road. The vehicle was attempting to cross state Route 32, when they were struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound. Mrs. Hagan succumbed to her injuries as a result of the crash. Impairment of the driver is not suspected and the crash remains under investigation at this time. State Route 32 eastbound was closed for a limited time while the crash was being investigated. Troopers were assisted on scene by the Elm Grove Fire Department and Portsmouth Ambulance.
