OAK HILL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Following complaints from residents, the Oak Hill City Council voted on Monday to lower the speed limit on Highlawn Avenue and add a stop sign.

Councilman Chris Gill explained to fellow council members that he had received multiple complaints from residents of Highlawn Avenue regarding speeding drivers.

The city street has seen increased traffic since the opening of the Solid Rock Worship Center.

Gill, who is a member of the church, stated that the church sees around 300 congregates for each service, and almost all drivers take Highlawn Avenue to and from the church.

In an effort to help stop speeders and create safer driving conditions on the street, the City Council voted unanimously to lower the speed limit from 25 MPH to 15 MPH.

A new stop sign will also be placed at the parking lot of the church.

The Oak Hill Police Department will be able to enforce the new speed limit once signs are put up by city officials.
