A Trooper with the West Virginia State Police got a report that Derringer had stolen a 2001 BMW sport-utility vehicle from a house in the Oak Hill area of Fayette County on September 6, 2023 before selling it to a scrap yard in Raleigh County.

The Trooper was informed by witnesses that Derringer stated he was the owner of the car, which had an estimated value of $1,100, and that it was given to him by the victim after he finished work on the car.
