Oak Island denies permit extension for house
Oak Island Town Council denied a request to extend a special use permit (SUP) this month for a property owner who said he wanted to build his retirement home at The Point. Council held a quasi-judicial hearing during its June 18 meeting to consider the extension for Kuntal Ghandi and his property at 6963 Kings Lynn Drive. Ghandi appeared before council for a quasi-judicial hearing earlier this year related to his Ocean Crest Motel property on East Beach Drive. He didn’t get the same results this time around, however, as council felt Ghandi failed to meet the requirements needed to grant an extension and denied the request in a 4-1 vote with Mark Martin casting the lone dissenting opinion.
