Three Oak Ridge players win medals in table tennis at Senior Olympics in Franklin
Three local table tennis players were medalists at this year’s Tennessee Senior Olympics finals. Competing June 24 at Franklin’s Academy Park, Greg Hamilton won a bronze medal in the 70-74 men’s singles and teamed with Geoff Tillett to win a bronze in 65-69 doubles, a news release said. Blaine Stewart was a silver medalist in the men’s 55-59 singles. All three have competed locally at the Oak Ridge Senior Center.

Team registration for the City of Oak Ridge Department of Recreation & Parks’ 2024 Fall Softball season will open on June 28, 2024. A Men’s League will be offered on Monday evenings with the possibility of Thursday make-up games. A recreational and a competitive Co-Ed league will be offered on Tuesday evenings with the possibility of Thursday make up games.
Tennessee Takes Over SEC Network On Friday
The 10th-annual SEC Network Takeover is underway, and Tennessee’s day in the spotlight begins at midnight ET on Friday, July 5. During the #SECNTakeover, each of the now 16 Southeastern Conference schools has the opportunity to create a customized, 24-hour stretch of programming to highlight its memorable moments and history. Tanner Franklin commits to Vols, returns to Tennessee
Tennessee and head coach Tony Vitello received a commitment to the Vols’ program on Tuesday. Kennesaw State sophomore pitcher Tanner Franklin committed to Tennessee. “Extremely blessed for this new opportunity,” Franklin announced. “Thank you Lord. Go Vols! Psalms 24:17” The 6-foot-5, 240-pound Franklin (6-1) appeared in 34 games, including three starts, across the 2023-24 seasons at Kennesaw State. He recorded 61 strikeouts, a 6.34 ERA and five saves in 38.1 innings pitched. Franklin went to Kennesaw State from Jefferson County High School in Dandridge, Tennessee. Tennessee won the national championship and the Southeastern Conference regular-season and tournament titles in 2024. 2025 will be the eighth season for Tennessee under Vitello. Tennessee offered a scholarship to 2026 small forward prospect Manny Green. “Blessed to receive an offer from the University of Tennessee offered,” Green said. The 6-foot-6, 185-pound four-star small forward is from Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, Georgia. Green ranks as the No. 52 prospect in the class of 2026. He ranks as the No. 17 small forward and No. 3 player in Georgia, according to 247Sports.
