The Friends of the Oak Ridge Public Library (FOL) will hold their summer Book Sale Thursday, July 11, through Saturday, July 13, at the library. This sale takes the place of the traditionally held spring sale.

We will have our usual broad subject range of printed books as well as DVDs, CDs, and other non-print items. For this sale, there will be lots of fiction and children’s titles. A large number of titles covering World War II will be available in the history section. And yes, there will be jigsaw puzzles, too.

The Book Sale will begin with the Members Only Sale from 5 to 7 p.m. the evening of Thursday, July 11. Membership is available at the door ($5 for individuals, $10 for families). Remember, for your comfort and safety, we do not allow the use of electronic scanning devices during the Members Sale. These devices can be used during the remaining days of the sale.

On Friday, July 12, the sale will open at 10:30 a.m. and close at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 13, is the Half-Price Sale from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. From 3 to 5 p.m., participants can purchase a bag of books for $2. Regular price for most of our titles will continue to be 50 cents or $1 each. Setup will begin on Tuesday afternoon, July 9, and end on Thursday afternoon, July 11. Takedown will be Tuesday July 16.

If you would like to volunteer, we can use help setting up as well as during the sale itself and after the sale as we dispose of unsold items. We also need people who can help move boxes of books from and to our storage unit.

The Friends of the Library (FOL) is a non-profit organization that holds used book sales to raise funds for the library as well as to find new homes for publications. Funds are used to support the library’s programs such as the summer reading programs for children and adults and the World Wise Wednesdays, sponsor the FOL Book Discussion Group, purchase supplies, publications, and equipment, facilitate interlibrary loan services, and provide other help requested by the Library.

Membership forms are available at the library’s Main Desk and at the book sales. Donations of books, DVDs, CDs, jigsaw puzzles, and other publications are always welcome because we use them to fill the Book Nook housed in the main library, as well as at the Book Sale. Donations can be left in the donation area in the library lobby.
