Three local table tennis players were medalists at this year’s Tennessee Senior Olympics finals.

Competing June 24 at Franklin’s Academy Park, Greg Hamilton won a bronze medal in the 70-74 men’s singles and teamed with Geoff Tillett to win a bronze in 65-69 doubles, a news release said. Blaine Stewart was a silver medalist in the men’s 55-59 singles. All three have competed locally at the Oak Ridge Senior Center.

The Tennessee Senior Olympics, which began in 1981, has a mission to promote healthy lifestyles for seniors through fitness, sports, and an active involvement in life. Each year thousands of seniors from across the state compete in district competitions to qualify for the state finals, the release said. This year, almost 90 players competed in the table tennis finals, in age groups ranging from 50 to 90.

The Oak Ridge Senior Center has an active table tennis group that meets three times weekly: Tuesday 3:30-6:30, Friday 2-4, and Saturday 9-12:30. The Senior Center is at 1407 Oak Ridge Turnpike, adjacent to the Oak Ridge Civic Center.
