OAK RIDGE, Tenn. ( WATE ) — Seniors, grab your pool gear and sunglasses. Spots are open for reservation as the City of Oak Ridge announced the date for its annual Senior Citizens Day at the outdoor pool. The event is free for seniors aged 50 or older.

The Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department is sponsoring this year’s Senior Citizens Pool Party, which is happening from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7 at the Oak Ridge Outdoor Pool at 172 Providence Road. Seniors wanting to make a splash at the pool party need to call the Oak Ridge Senior Center by July 29 to reserve their place.

Seniors can get their splash and swim on in one of the largest spring-fed in the southeast, as well as play games for door prizes. A light lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. on a first come, first served basis.

According to the AARP, swimming is a great workout for the elderly especially since the exercise is gentle on joints. Swimming reportedly improves heart health, reduces the risk of osteoporosis, increases flexibility, improves muscle strength and tone, and boosts mental health.

Call the Senior Center at 865-425-3999 to reserve your spot.
