2 face charges of rape, indecent liberties with a child

While investigating a physical altercation in Oakboro on June 27, the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office became aware of multiple sex offenses that occurred in Stanly County dating back to 2013.
The individuals involved in the alleged separate instances have been arrested.

Christy Lynn Helms, 38, has been charged with four counts of indecent liberties with a child, three counts of statutory sexual offense with a child <= 15, statutory rape of a child <= 15, felony conspiracy, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Helms’ bond has been set at $800,000.
James Ston Byrd, 51, has been charged with two counts of statutory rape of a child <= 15, indecent liberties with a child, felony conspiracy, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and driving while impaired. Byrd’s bond has been set at $801,500.

Both individuals have an initial court date of Aug. 12.
