Fireworks likely started fires that destroyed 2 Lake County homes: officials
LAKE COUNTY, IIll. - Two homes in Lake County were destroyed in fires on the Fourth of July, likely due to nearby fireworks, officials said Friday. Around 12:50 a.m., a fire broke out at a home in the 37700 block of Charlotte Drive in Wadsworth. Three residents of the home and their pets were able to exit the home before flames engulfed the entire structure.
Black Drivers In Chicago Subjected To More Than Half Of Police Traffic Stops, New Report Finds
CHICAGO — Chicago Police targeted Black drivers last year in traffic stops almost four times more than white drivers, according to a new report. The state’s annual Illinois Traffic and Pedestrian Stop Study found Black drivers were behind the wheel of 51 percent of traffic stops conducted by Chicago police in 2023, even though Black residents comprise less than 30 percent of the city’s population.
