Over 500 pounds of illegal fireworks seized in Oakland

( KRON ) — Over 500 pounds of illegal fireworks were seized by the Oakland Police Department, according to authorities. It is the second large seizure of fireworks announced by the department in recent days.

Oakland officers responded to the 1500 block of 6 ^th Avenue on a report of a group of people near a vehicle. When police arrived to investigate, the group dispersed immediately after spotting the officers, according to OPD.

Officers continued to investigate the area, police said, and located a vehicle with a "large quantity of illegal fireworks in plain view." Authorities had the vehicle towed and impounded for unlawful possession of fireworks.

Oakland police officials said the illegal fireworks stash weighed just over 560 pounds. The fireworks were handed over to the Oakland Fire Department for disposal.

According to police, no arrests have been made in connection to the incident.

On Saturday evening, nearly 100 pounds of illegal fireworks were seized by the Oakland Police Department. One arrest was made in that incident.
