American League pitcher Mason Miller of the Oakland Athletics (19) pitches in the fifth inning during the 2024 MLB All-Star game at Globe Life Field.

The American League won the 2024 MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday night by a 5-3 margin.

Boston Red Sox centerfielder Jarren Duran was the big difference-maker in the game, hitting a two-run home run to break a 3-3 tie and making a strong defensive play to hold Cincinnati Reds speedster Elly De La Cruz to a single.

Here are some of the best and worst moments from Tuesday's game.

The best of the All-Star Game

We got to see Paul Skenes vs. Aaron Judge: It may have only been one pitch , but this is the matchup everybody tuned in to see. There was some concern that it was not going to happen with Judge being placed in the No. 4 spot of the American League lineup, but Juan Soto's two-out walk made it happen.

Shohei Ohtani's home run: There is something about Ohtani home runs that just sound different than home runs hit by other players. There is just a thunderous crack off of his bat, especially on no-doubter home runs like the three-run shot he hit on Tuesday . That home run also helped him make some history as the only player to ever have a home run and a win as a pitcher in his career in the All-Star Game.

Trea Turner's defensive gem: The best defensive play of the game was turned in by the Philadelphia Phillies shortstop when he made this diving stop up the middle, all while he was mic'd up and being interviewed on the broadcast.

Mason Miller dominates: Miller remains one of the best stories in baseball this season. The Oakland A's reliever was pitching Division III games just five years ago and is now the most dominant relief pitcher in baseball. He showed that off on Tuesday night by striking out Ohtani and Turner on back-to-back at-bats. After striking out Ohtani with a dominant slider, he hit 104 mph on the first pitch to Turner.

The worst of the All-Star Game

The uniforms: Not only are the All-Star Game uniforms typically ugly (and this season is no exception), but they take away from what used to be one of the best visuals in the game: everybody on the field wearing their own team's uniforms. The good news is that commissioner Rob Manfred seems to be hearing the complaints, per Tyler Kepner of The Athletic, and is looking into changing the system. He should let the players wear these uniforms in the Home Run Derby and stick with their team uniforms for the game itself.

Replay review in the All-Star Game: No matter what your thoughts on replay in baseball are, we can all probably agree that a challenge on a play at first base in the middle of the All-Star Game is not really necessary. We had that happen in the top of the sixth inning on a play that turned out to be a Freddie Freeman double play.

Cristopher Sanchez got the short straw. The "worst" aspect of this has nothing to do with Sanchez's performance. He was actually outstanding, getting two outs on two pitches. But that is all he got to do in the game, which almost seems like he got shortchanged a bit.

This was the result of National League manager Torey Lovullo wanting to get every player on the roster into the game. And with there being no three-batter minimum, this gave him the flexibility to do that. Still, working your entire career to get to this stage and only getting to throw two pitches seems like it has to be disappointing for Sanchez.

Trade talk: Yes, the trade deadline is just around the corner. Yes, sports fans enjoy talking about trades. But the All-Star game does not seem like the best time for the broadcast to focus so much on trade speculation. The fans of teams that are out of the race are getting a chance to see their players on a national stage. They do not need it to be a reminder as to how they will soon be playing for somebody else.
