The Padres selected Ornelas' contract and optioned him to Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday. Ornelas has spent the entire 2024 season at El Paso, slashing .316/.390/.515 with 12 home runs and five stolen bases across 310 plate appearances. Though he'll remain with El Paso coming out of the All-Star break, the 24-year-old outfielder is now a part of the Padres' 40-man roster. The transaction should improve his chances of receiving his first big-league call-up at some point later this season.

The Twins activated Weiss (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday and outrighted him to Triple-A St. Paul, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Weiss has been out all season with a teres major strain in his right shoulder. He's healthy now, after having allowed six runs with an 8:3 K:BB over eight innings during his rehab assignment, which included stops at three affiliates. The Twins didn't have room on Weiss from the 40-man roster, but he'll remain in the organization as bullpen depth at St. Paul.

Koprivica was drafted with the 57th overall selection in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Pistons, and then his draft rights were later traded to the Clippers in 2023, so this is the third time he's been traded despite never playing in the league. It seems unlikely that he'll be leaving his team in Serbia any time soon.

Kansas City placed Thompson (undisclosed) on the active/non-football injury list Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Thompson being placed on the NFI list to begin training camp isn't surprising, as he suffered a seizure and cardiac arrest during a team meeting back in June. Kansas City will doubtless take every precaution with Thompson's recovery as he works his way back onto the practice field. He'll be eligible to return from the NFI list at any point during training camp or the preseason, once cleared to practice.

One of the best relief-pitching prospect in the minors, Maxwell came into the year with significant control issues, and that has still been an issue (16.7 percent walk rate on the year). He struggled initially after getting promoted from Double-A Chattanooga on May 21, but this recent stretch could make him an option for the big-league club in the second half.

The Astros sent Caratini (hip) to their Florida Complex League affiliate on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment. Caratini has been shelved since late June with a left hip flexor strain but has been cleared for rehab games. The veteran catcher shouldn't need too many rehab at-bats before being activated, with a return early on in the second half likely.

The Chiefs placed Nnadi (triceps) on the active/PUP list Wednesday. Nnadi suffered a triceps injury during Kansas City's wild-card win over the Dolphins after suiting up for all 17 of the team's regular-season games, and he was sidelined during OTAs. The defensive tackle can be activated from the PUP list at any point throughout training camp, though at this time it remains to be seen whether he'll be available for the Chiefs' playoff opener against Jacksonville on August 10.

Cannon is scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Royals in Kansas City, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. In his final appearance before the All-Star break last Friday versus the Pirates, Cannon worked out of the bullpen as a piggyback pitcher behind starter Garrett Crochet, tossing six innings while allowing four earned runs. Cannon will now take back a rotation spot in the White Sox's opening series of the second half, as he'll be picking up his ninth start of the season Friday. The White Sox have already confirmed Cannon for another start for next Thursday in Texas, but it's unclear if he'll stick around in the rotation thereafter.
