Corvallis standoff ends peacefully with arrest of armed felon
CORVALLIS, Ore. -- After a standoff lasting several hours, a 27-year-old armed felon from Corvallis was arrested and is facing multiple charges. On July 20, around 7:52 a.m., Corvallis Police were dispatched to a home on NW Lance Way after receiving reports of an armed convicted felon who was barricaded in the garage. He was allegedly making threatening statements related to a pending jail sentence.

Kale Jensen has “leapt” into the Siuslaw High School record book. The incoming Viking Junior competed at a recent “all-comers” meet in Eugene. Competing in the high jump he cleared six feet, two inches, putting him into a 5-way tie for ninth place in that category. His mark is also the 2nd highest recorded in the 21st century for Siuslaw according to athletic director Chris Johnson. Bryce Siegel cleared six-four in 2007. The school record is held by Siuslaw Hall of Fame member and current building contractor Mike Roe. He jumped six feet ten inches in 1979. Roe’s mark is also the state record in the 4A classification.

TEEN DIES IN SUV VERSUS MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT
A teen from Umpqua died in an SUV versus motorcycle accident Wednesday afternoon. A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report released Saturday said at 2:15 p.m. the SUV driver was headed west on Garden Valley Road when she made a left-hand turn into River Forks Market, near the intersection with Curry Road. The vehicle made the turn in front of the motorcyclist, who was driving east on a street bike at a high rate of speed.
