The Arson Bomb Squad reports the arrest of two Franklin Square men for an incident that occurred on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at 6:18 PM in Franklin Square. According to detectives, Nicholas Moschonas, 33, of 516 3rd Street was observed setting off fireworks on the corner of 3rd Street and 2nd Avenue. Upon further investigation, it was determined that a 2019 Dodge RAM belonging to Peter Mari, 33, of 905 Hancock Avenue, was discovered with numerous boxes of fireworks inside the vehicle.

Tyrus Lazar defeated the two-time Milltown Fourth of July Pizza Eating Contest winner Pete Lewandowski. Lewandowski won the inaugural contest in 2022 and repeated last summer, earning him the nickname Repeat Pete from Maria's Pizza owners, Rosamaria and Camillo Bonesse. Lazar downed seven full slices in five minutes to win the 2024 title. The teen recently graduated from Milltown's Joyce Kilmer Middle School and will be starting Spotswood High School in September.
