During Friday's Crowdstrike software-update issues that caused global outages, the Ocean City Fire Department issued a warning on Facebook that numerous buildings in the resort may have communications issues with their alarm systems.

The department reminded residents and visitors that, in this time and always, to always immediately evacuate the building in case of fire and then call 911.

During the software update glitch, the department said, though fire alarm system detectors or occupant notification features (horns/strobes) did not appear to be impacted, some systems that typically automatically contact the fire department via phone line may temporarily not have completed that function. As a result, there was and may still be a potential for delay in fire department response.

Property owners were urged to contact their management company and/or fire alarm contractor if they are experiencing issues, and may contact the Fire Marshal’s Office at 410-289-8780 with additional concerns.
