2 teens hailed as heroes for saving friend's life through CPR in New Jersey
Two teens from Howell, New Jersey are being hailed as heroes after they saved a friend's life.Friends of 18-year-old JJ Machnik rushed to his side in May when he suddenly collapsed while training for a wrestling tournament.They continued to perform CPR until paramedics arrived.Machnik is a star athlete and in good health, but at the age of 14, he was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.His friends, Giovanni and Trevor, knew about his condition and ran to his side when he collapsed on the treadmill.Machnik says he's forever grateful for their quick actions."I'm blessed they were there. Trevor speeding down CPR with Giovanni pulling me off the treadmill," Machnil recalled. "It really is a miracle."The teen says his friends learned CPR when he was first diagnosed with the heart condition.He spent 13 days in the hospital, where he later received a defibrillator to prevent future episodes.

Michael J. Vulpis, 26, of Freehold, — TheOcean County Prosecutor's Office said on Thursday that a Freehold man had been charged with attempted murder. The man is alleged to have shot a Jackson Township man after aiding in the guy's attack when the man was sitting in a car outside a house. Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer stated that Michael J. Vulpis, 26, of Freehold, was taken into custody on Wednesday and charged with attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and being a specific individual not to possess a weapon or ammunition in connection with an assault on June 27.

WEST LONG BRANCH — A firefighter is charged with forgery after being accused of tampering with records in response to an Open Public Records Act request. Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said his office was investigating the validity of two training certificates for a firefighter with West Long Branch Fire Company No. 2 earlier in 2024.
