    Pedestrian, 71, killed in hit-and run crash in east Marion County

    An elderly man died Monday night in a hit-and-run crash in Marion County.

    Here's what we know:

    Where is the crash scene? East County Road 25 and Bay Road in Ocklawaha.

    Which agencies responded? Marion County emergency medical personnel and the Florida Highway Patrol.

    What happened? Troopers said it appears a vehicle was traveling east on East CR 25 when it hit the victim, who was lying down in the eastbound lane.

    The victim was found on the south shoulder of the roadway. Law enforcement officials said a motorist passing by saw what looked like a body on the shoulder and called 911. The area where the incident occurred has no street lighting.

    Do troopers know what type of vehicle struck the victim or at what time? No.

    What time were first responders notified? FHP officials said county officials were called at 9:51 p.m. Monday and arrived at 9:54 p.m. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene at 9:56 p.m., authorities said.

    Any information about the victim? Troopers said he's 71 and from Ocklawaha. Troopers said the man's family members told them they did not know where he was heading, or why he was at the location. The FHP no longer releases the names of people involved in vehicle crashes.
