Streator Police Dealing With "Far Too Many Domestic Incidents"
With half of 2024 in the books, many police and fire departments are using the time to reflect on their number of calls for service. In Streator, the police department reports just shy of 8,000 calls of service in the first 6 months. A number standing out to the department is 188 domestic incidents reported so far in 2024. The Grundy County Proactive Unit arrested two individuals after a traffic stop in the 200 block of Earl Street in Morris on June 27th. Shelby Newell, 31, of Streator was charged with the Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon and the Unlawful Possession of meth, both class three felonies and two counts of the Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, both class four felonies.
