Chapman Sworn In as Mt. Vernon’s Assistant Police Chief
MT. VERNON – Travis Chapman was sworn in Tuesday morning as Mt. Vernon’s Assistant Police Chief. According to Mt. Vernon Police Department Facebook post, Chapman is a 17-year veteran of the Mt. Vernon Police Department. Chapman is a U.S. Coast Guard rescue swimmer veteran, served as a police officer in Las Vegas for two years, has been a patrolman, field training officer, corporal, sergeant, and captain in the patrol division, internal affairs officer, firearms instructor, officer of the year, previous team leader on ILEAS WMD Special Response Team, and is the Team Commander for the Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office High Risk Team.

Labor, family, friends mourn retired Steelworkers leader, union activist David Dowling
Bellville, IL – Longtime Steelworkers leader and union activist David Dowling has died, leaving family, friends and fellow Steelworkers mourning in the Metro East. Dowling, 75, of Belleville, died on June 24, only six weeks after his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Born in South Dakota, Dowling was a Labor union activist for more than 50 years. He began at what was then known as Granite City Steel on Nov. 18, 1973, and served as president of Local 67 from 1982 to 1997.

General Motors puts brakes on work at Wentzville plant
(Wentzville, MO) – Assembly line work has come to a screeching halt at the General Motors plant in Wentzville. KMOX Radio in St. Louis reports that there’s a strike at a Wentzville supplier, called Lear. The St. Louis area factory employs about 500 union members who make parts like seats for GM vehicles.
