With around 100,000 people making their way to the PAV during FOTL’s five day run, major things are in store this year, including carnival fun for the whole family along with top-notch performances meant to keep audiences dancing on their feet and having the time of their lives all weekend long.

The Environmental Protection Agency said the standard for cleaning up coal ash in the Town of Pines will now be a little more strict. In March, the environmental group Earthjustice pointed out flaws in the data used to set that standard. But activists say some flaws still remain — and that means the soil will still be unsafe.
Federal Sentence for Gun Sale in Michigan City
(South Bend, IN) - A Chicago man has been sentenced on a federal gun charge with ties to Michigan City. In January of last year, 42-year-old Allory Smith of Chicago sold a rifle, a handgun, and ammunition to a buyer in the Michigan City area. According to authorities, Smith referred to the rifle as a “real license to kill” because he believed it had previously been reported stolen. With several prior felony convictions, Smith is prohibited from possessing firearms.

Hammond Redevelopment Commission gets two lease proposals for downtown arts building
South Shore Arts has some competition for its Downtown Hammond space. For about 25 years, the organization has hosted classes, exhibits and other events at a former NIPSCO substation on Fayette Street, known as Substation No. 9.
