MERIDIAN TWP. — A 21-year-old man could face charges after accidentally firing a handgun inside an apartment in the 2300 block of Club Meridian Drive on Sunday.

"Unfortunately, we did have an accidental discharge of a firearm yesterday," Meridian Township Police Chief Rick Grillo said Monday. "A person was manipulating their legally owned firearm in their apartment and accidentally fired the weapon."

The bullet traveled through a wall and ended up in another apartment.

No one was injured in the incident at about 6:45 p.m. Sunday. Grillo added that "very little" property was damaged.

"Officers did a great job tracking down the path of the stray round and ensuring no one was injured," he said.

"We will send the report to the Ingham County Prosecutors Office to review requested charges of reckless discharge of a firearm," Grillo said.

The firearm was seized and secured as evidence, the chief said.
