    Teenager shot dead days before 14th birthday during sleepover in Oklahoma

    A 13-year-old girl was shot dead just five days before her 14th birthday while at a sleepover at a friend's house in Oklahoma.

    A’moni Young, 13, was shot at the 700 block of NW 118th Street in northwest Oklahoma City around 1.40 am on Monday. She would have celebrated her birthday five days later on 20 July.

    Police said they arrived at the scene and found A'moni with a gunshot wound. She was rushed to OU Medical Center where she died.

    In a statement, Oklahoma City Police said: "Police responded to a residence in the 700 block of NW 118th St. regarding a shooting . Officers on the scene discovered 13-year-old A’Moni Young suffering from a gunshot wound. Ms. Young was transported to OU Medical Center where she died.

    "The investigation is in its early stages, and it is not yet clear what led to Ms. Young being killed."

    Police said suspects ran from the scene of the shooting. Air 1 police helicopters and K9 units worked to locate the suspects. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information should contact the Homicide Tip Line at 405/297-1200.

    A’moni was a middle school student. In a statement, it said: "OKCPS is heartbroken to learn of the passing of A'moni Young, most recently a student at John Marshall Enterprise Middle School.

    "Crisis counseling is available to students and staff who need it. We will keep her family and friends in our thoughts during this very difficult time."
