Good Samaritan helps save couple from burning car

OKLAHOMA CITY ( KFOR ) — The search for a Good Samaritan is over. Oklahoma City Police were hoping to find the man who helped save a couple from a burning car in late June, and that person has now come forward.

Police posted on social media asking for help in identifying the man.

News 4 shared that story last week and received a phone call from the man who saved the couple.

Thursday, the mother of the driver in the car came face-to-face with the man who helped save her son. It was the first time they saw each other since the crash.

It also turns out, they have a strange connection and actually aren’t strangers at all.

A few days after the crash, the driver’s mother realized she grew up with the man who helped save her son and his girlfriend in the burning car.

Taurin Knight said he was just doing what was right in the moment.

He was driving on Lake Hefner Parkway on June 30 when he saw flames coming from a car.

“When I seen the fire, I slowed down and it was ladies on the road and they were screaming and yelling. Like, hey, help us, help us,” said Taurin Knight, who helped save a couple from a burning car.

Knight said his adrenaline was high as he rushed down the hill to help.

“I was like, hey, hey, listen, we can get you out. We’re going to get you out. And she just kept crying,” said Knight.

Mary Parish called Knight her hero after saving her son, Troy Turner and his girlfriend, Danajua Maclin.

Knight reunited with Parish for the first time at the KFOR studios on Thursday.

“I hear Oklahoma standard. I know what that is now. He’s the Oklahoma standard,” said Mary Parish.

Parish is thankful her son and his girlfriend are alive, but she’s shocked at their condition.

“They were in a burning car…. with no burn marks, no smoke inhalation…. From a burning car, no burn marks. It’s amazing…it’s amazing.”

She also said she didn’t realize her son’s hero was actually a friend.

“His son and my son are good friends. And by the time that he got there, they’re talking about the accident and his son puts it together,” said Parish.

“It’s just God, you know what I mean. That’s really what it was,” said Knight.

Parish said her son has some short term memory loss, but he is gaining strength again.

She also said her son’s girlfriend hurt her shoulder and ankle in the crash, but both are doing much better.

Parish said what makes the crash surreal is that her grandson was born on June 30.

Her son, Troy Turner’s late father, was also born on June 30 and she’s thankful that June 30th wasn’t her son’s death.
