    Teenager sentenced in the death of 15-year-old girl, Brianna Higgins

    OLATHE, Kan. — The Johnson County District Attorney’s Office says a man has now been sentenced in the murder of a 15-year-old girl.

    Davon Washington, a 17-year-old, who pleaded guilty in the killing of Brianna Higgins , was sentenced to a combined extended jurisdiction of juvenile prosecution (EJJP) sentence.

    Washington will be at the Youth Correctional Facility until he is 22.5 years old and will be conditionally released when he is 23.

    If he violates the terms of his juvenile sentence, he will be ordered to serve an adult sentence of 123 months.

    Washington previously pleaded guilty to one count of reckless second-degree murder and another count of juvenile in possession of a firearm, according to court records.

    The shooting happened on Jan. 19. The Olathe Police Department identified the victim a few days after the crime as Higgins.

    Ten days later, authorities said they had arrested a 17-year-old suspect , now identified as Washington.

    Higgins was rushed to the hospital with a gunshot wound on the evening of Jan. 19 from an apartment complex near W. 127th and S. Mur Len. Despite the effort to save her life, she died from the shooting.
