A 17-year-old was shot and killed in his duplex in Old Hickory around 12:45 a.m. Friday morning.

Caleb Womack was found lying in his living room after Hermitage Precinct Police responded to a shots fired call — they transported him to Skyline Medical center where he died.

According to police, Womack arrived home shortly before multiple shots were fired into his duplex from the roadway. They say it was targeted gunfire and are investigating the situation as a homicide.

There was a candlelight vigil held for Caleb outside the home on Bryan Street Saturday night. Loved ones held each other close, shared stories about Caleb, and condemned gun violence.

"I never thought I would have to bury my son," said Caleb's mother, Rebecca Minton. "I'm still in shock over a senseless crime that shouldn't have ever been done."

She described Caleb as a quiet but happy go lucky young man who was going into his senior year at McGavock High School and was passionate about mechanics.

"He always had a smile on his face, he liked making people laugh. He didn't like seeing nobody down," said Minton. "Had so much ahead of him, so much."

She added she hopes the person or people who did this come forward.

"I just want peace, and I want justice for Caleb. That's what it boils down to: I want justice for Caleb," she concluded.

Detectives are asking that anyone with information about the person or people responsible contact Crime Stoppers at (615)-742-7463. You can remain anonymous, and there is a cash reward of up to $5,000 available.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help Womack's family, if you would like to contribute.
