OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. — Students, family, and the community are mourning the loss of a DeSoto Central High School baseball player over the weekend.

The 16-year-old student-athlete, Tucker Rudd, was killed around 1 a.m. Saturday in a crash in an Olive Branch neighborhood.

Neighbors say they woke up to a loud “boom” when a car came speeding around a curb on Terrance Stone Drive and crashed into a parked car, sending both cars into front yards.

On Monday, counselors were on campus at the high school to support students.

”Everyone is deeply saddened about the loss of one of our students. We will continue to pray for his family and friends, our students and staff, and the DeSoto Central community,” said Superintendent Cory Uselton in a statement.

Tucker was identified by DeSoto Central Athletics in a post on X.

In another post on social media, his baseball coach Brian Lewis shared condolences for the Rudd family and said Tucker will be missed greatly.

Lewis says the team will take everything a day at a time as baseball tryouts are postponed this week and Grief counselors support students.

Neighbors say as they work to repair the physical damage left behind from the crash, the emotional sore spot will remain.

The crash is still under investigation, according to the Olive Branch Police Department.

A GoFundMe has been set up for Tucker’s family.
