Once again, the town of Olpe had nonstop activities from sun up to sun down Saturday. Despite some early morning rainfall, the 2024 Olpe Downhome Days slate of events went off without a hitch. The morning hours featured a series of bike races, a 5K water gun fun run and kids fishing derby.

Second Flint Hills Spirit Fair set for Saturday
One of Emporia’s community activities this weekend is all about the supernatural. The second annual Flint Hills Spirit Fair will be held at the Lyon County History Center on Saturday. The event is organized by Flint Hills Paranormal, and co-founder and senior investigator Brandy Nance says a lot is happening.
Work progressing eastward for 24th and Prairie waterline project
There is still at least a year left on the 24th and Prairie water main replacement project, but there has been steady progress since work began six weeks ago. The project hits a milestone Thursday with the opening of both drives to the Pavilions shopping center at 24th and Industrial. Also, 24th opens to two-way traffic from Industrial Drive to Presbyterian Manor’s east drive.
KDOT announces CCLIP funding for Emporia, Council Grove
Traffic enhancements in Emporia and Council Grove are getting help from the state government. Lyon County Commission approves disaster donation MOUs, final Ignite Emporia allocation
Lyon County now has two memorandums of understanding in place to handle donations and related information in cases of disasters. As part of the County Commission’s action session Thursday, Lyon County Emergency Management Director Jarrod Fell presented the idea for the county to partner with the Emporia Community Foundation and the United Way of the Flint Hills. Fell says this has been part of recent conversations through the county’s Local Emergency Planning Committee.
