JOHNSON COUNTY —Fire officials in Johnson County urged the public to consider saving the money you might spend on fireworks and attend a public fireworks display. On their social media page, the Olathe Fire Department shared photos of a house fire on July 4, 2023 caused by discarded fireworks in a trash bin.
Galena Man Runs from and Fights Police
A Galena man is arrested after fleeing from and fighting with police. This weekend, the Galena Police Department was notified of a physical altercation around 11th and Keller Street. As officers arrived one of the individuals took off on foot. During their pursuit, the man attempted to enter three residences and then ended up taking a bicycle from a woman as she rode past him. He eventually ditched the bike and ran into a wooded area, crossing a fence line into a thick brush. After officers caught up to the man, he continued to resist. As officers placed hand restraints on him, he spit, attempted to smear blood and other body fluids on the arresting officers and made threats to all responding personnel.
