Capron Captures Junior Gold Title
Incoming Husker freshman bowler Karina Capron took home the U18 title at the 2024 Junior Gold Championships in Allen Park, Mich., Saturday evening. Capron, the U12 2017 Junior Gold Champion, qualified for match play in sixth after five qualifying rounds. In matches of two games total pinfall, Capron defeated Maggie Smith 427-295, Amanda Lang 394-391 and Melia Mitskavich 395-373 before facing Kaitlyn Stull in a match to decide the placements for the tv show. Capron fell to Stull 441-414 and earned the second-place spot in the finals.

Day 2 of the RAGBRAI will pass through Elliott, Griswold, and Lewis before the overnight stop. Motorcycle Crash in Council Bluffs Claims One Life
(Council Bluffs) A motorcycle driver died from injuries suffered in a crash in Council Bluffs on Saturday. Council Bluffs Police say the accident happened around 3:04 p.m. at S. 17th and 2nd Avenue. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of a truck at the intersection. Council Bluffs Fire and Rescue, along with Council Bluffs Police, arrived at the location, and the driver of the motorcycle was transported to UNMC, where he has since passed away from the injuries he sustained from the accident. Authorities did not release the name.
Five-star offensive tackle names Nebraska as a top school
A top class of 2026 offensive lineman has cut his list of finalists, and Nebraska made the list. Jackson Cantwell is a five-star offensive tackle for Nixa High School in Nixa, Missouri. Cantwell cut the number of offers he’s currently considering in half. Nebraska is listed among the 14 finalists the tackle named earlier in the week. Cantwell excels at sports other than football as well. During his freshman year in high school, he threw the shotput 62-0.5 feet, good enough for the third longest all-time for a freshman. Huskers projected to land four-star defensive lineman
The Nebraska Cornhuskers have been projected to land a four-star prospect and class of 2025 recruit. Kade Pietrzak is a defensive lineman for Sheyenne High School in West Fargo, ND. Pietrzak is currently ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the state of North Dakota for the 2025 recruiting cycle. Bryan Munson of the On3 Network has projected an expert prediction for the Husker to receive Pietzak’s commitment. Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Kansas State are believed to be in the running. The Huskers class of 2025 holds 16 commitments and is ranked No. 28 nationwide. The Cornhuskers have also been making a series of offers to 2026 recruits but have not received any commitment. No timetable has been announced for when Kade Pietrzak will announce his decision. Three People Arrested for Assault in Red Oak
(Red Oak) Three people face assault charges following an incident in Red Oak. According to the press release, the charges stem from an incident in the 1800 block of N. 4th Street on Saturday night. As a result of the investigation, Officers arrested 35-year-old Micaela Morales and 35-year-old Douglas Walter Penry, both from Stanton, and 40-year-old Arthur Finton McCarthy of Ankeny.
RAGBRAI LI begins in southwest Iowa in pleasant summer conditions
GLENWOOD, Iowa — The Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa is now underway, as the 51st installment began in Glenwood along the Missouri River Sunday morning. The 7-day RAGBRAI will take riders on a southerly route across Iowa, making overnight stops in Red Oak, Atlantic, Winterset, Knoxville, Ottumwa, and Mt. Pleasant before arriving in Burlington Saturday to dip their tires in the Mississippi River.
