Whether it was head coach Matt Eberflus's new look and growing confidence or cameos from Simone Biles and Nick Saban, the premiere episode of "Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Chicago Bears" was packed with excitement surrounding the team. The HBO series showcases the charter franchise for the first time in its history.

Of course, the main event is the most important to the team's future: quarterback and first overall pick Caleb Williams. The improvement the team is looking for, emphasized by legendary Alabama head football coach Nick Saban, is paramount to the franchise's future.

General manager Ryan Poles has undoubtedly tried to help ensure his young signal-caller's success by adding Keenan Allen, D'Andre Swift, and offensive line depth in the offseason.

Nick Saban, who coached Matt Eberflus at Toledo University, cautioned the Bears head coach about the daunting expectations. However, nothing will curb fans' enthusiasm for Caleb Williams' rookie campaign.

The episode didn't miss the mark when introducing Williams to the show's viewers. "Sirius" by the Alan Parsons Project, a song famous for Chicago Bulls' starting lineup introductions during the Jordan Dynasty, played during the quarterback's first appearance. Former Bulls' public address announcer Ray Clay delivered his famous opening as the song played.

"Aaaaaand now, the starting lineup for your Chicago Bears! From Southern California, at quarterback, 6-foot-1, Caleb Williams."

The camera followed Williams around training camp through his first meetings, practices, and his rookie hazing, which featured a karaoke rendition of John Legend's "Ordinary People." The rookie handled the good-natured laughter and shenanigans well.

When the USC product shared his signing bonus figure with them, his teammates had quite a reaction.

The first episode of "Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Chicago Bears" unsurprisingly spent most of the hour with Caleb Williams but devoted some time to telling other stories.

Something discussed on social media and sports talk radio is Matt Eberflus's burgeoning confidence. The coach's new haircut and accompanying beard, his wife's creation, are the topics of discussion as he exudes confidence and has become more talkative with the media.

Williams' primary target, wide receiver DJ Moore, also got his due in the episode as he inked a massive contract extension . Moore will certainly be a focus of the show as he and Williams build rapport on the field.

The understated receiver met with the Bears' front office during practice, signed the deal, and returned to the field, showing viewers exactly who he is.

The focus shifted to safety Jonathan Owens, whom Matt Eberflus excused from practice to attend the Olympics in Paris. Owens is married to gymnastics legend Simone Biles and traveled overseas to watch and support his wife.

While the defensive back prepared for his trip, he spent some time with Biles on FaceTime.

NBC's Olympic footage showed Owens cheering on the gold medalist in the crowd.

Not to be outdone, undrafted rookie Theo Benedet gave his rendition of "God Bless the USA." The shirtless Canadian ripped off his pants during his performance to reveal his speedo, which possessed an American flag and a picture of a bald eagle on the front.

Unfortunately, Benedet was injured during last week's Hall of Fame game against the Houston Texans. Chicago pulled off a 21-17 win, which was abbreviated by inclement weather.

The human interest stories of players fighting for final roster spots, prominently featured in every season of "Hard Knocks," were ever-present.

Brett Rypien excelled in the backup quarterback competition, completing 11 of 15 passes for 166 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions in the preseason opener. Collin Johnson also contributed with two touchdown receptions as he fought for a roster spot in a crowded wide receiver room.

Caleb Williams will undoubtedly be the focus of "Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Chicago Bears" as he and his supporting cast enter the season with playoff expectations. The show lived up to the hype in episode one, delivering quotes, cameos, 90s nostalgia, and light-hearted moments.

While Williams and his teammates practiced sliding on a slip-n-slide at the end of the episode, football is almost here. In the meantime, fans wait and wonder if the team can deliver on expectations in the same fashion as the show.
