Team USA captain Jim Furyk has announced his highly anticipated captain's picks for the 2024 Presidents Cup. This strategic selection rounds out an American squad ready to defend its legacy at the prestigious event set to take the stage at Royal Montreal Golf Club.

Furyk's choices adhered closely to the points standings, selecting Sam Burns, Tony Finau, Russell Henley, Keegan Bradley, Brian Harman, and Max Homa for the national team. These players ranked No. 7-12, exhibited consistent performances and the competitive edge crucial for the high-pressure matches against the International Team.

Keegan Bradley: A Unique Dual Role

Particularly compelling is the inclusion of Keegan Bradley, who was initially named as an assistant captain following his recent naming as team captain of the 2025 Ryder Cup. His recent victory at the BMW Championship and tenacity on the course convinced Furyk of his dual value as both player and mentor.

Bradley's commitment and drive were highlighted following his win in Denver and his last-minute qualification for the BMW Championship, propelling him into the selection spotlight.

"When I named Keegan as a captain's assistant for the Presidents Cup, I knew there was a chance he would play his way onto the U.S. team, and I can say without a doubt he did just that," Furyk said.

    New and Old Faces

This year's selections also feature debutant Russell Henley, who after a career-best season, will take his first swing in a U.S. team competition. Meanwhile, veterans like Tony Finau and Max Homa, who have shown their might in previous team competitions, are now set to join Team USA in Canada.

Max Homa, known for his clutch performances on the biggest stages, has been particularly noted by Furyk for his emotional leadership and ability to rally his teammates.

"Max plays his best on the biggest stages, and that was on full display at the 2022 Presidents Cup and 2023 Ryder Cup," Furyk said. Despite a rough finish to his 2024 season, Homa will get the chance to participate once again in team competition.

    Missing Names and Surprises

Among the surprises were the omissions of Justin Thomas, a seasoned team competitor who found himself outside the top 12 in points after a rather disappointing 2024 season, and rising star Akshay Bhatia, who put together three Top-10 finishes this season on the PGA Tour including one victory. Their absence is a testament to the depth of talent and fierce competition within American ranks.

On Tap at The Tee Box: The Challenge in Montreal

As the Presidents Cup approaches, Team USA is acutely aware of the challenges ahead. The International Team, under Captain Mike Weir, is determined to reclaim the cup, leveraging home advantage and a squad blending experience with some fresh talent. However, it goes without saying that Team USA will be heavily favored when the two squads square off in Montreal later this month. With star players like Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and Collin Morikawa, joined by fellow automatic qualifiers Patrick Cantlay, Sahith Theegala, and Wyndham Clark, the U.S. team enters this year's Presidents Cup with a distinct advantage in star power over their International opponents.
