South Alabama LB Khalil Jacobs plans to reschedule Alabama, Missouri visits, adds new SEC school to mix

South Alabama linebacker Khalil Jacobs had to call off his visits to Alabama and Missouri last week.

He told On3 on Friday morning that he plans to reschedule both visits. The sophomore has two years of eligibility remaining and can play immediately wherever he lands. Jacobs visited Auburn , but never made it to Columbia or Tuscaloosa.

No hard dates have been set yet, he said, but he intends to visit both. Linebacker has been a major position of need for programs in the spring portal window. Jacobs tallied 56 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and an interception in 2023.

Another SEC school has entered the mix, too, he told On3. Jacobs plans to visit Ole Miss in the near future. The Rebels brought in Arkansas transfer linebacker Chris Paul Jr. this winter, and Suntarine Perkins is set to build off a standout freshman season. Adding Jacobs would give them another option in the linebacker rotation.

“I’m looking for a positive environment I can thrive in,” he previously told On3. “I’m dominant on the field, and I want to be a part of a system that will allow me to do so.”

During his visit to Auburn, he spent the majority of his trip with defensive coordinator/linebackers coach DJ Durkin . The Tigers are recruiting him to play the dime, a hybrid linebacker/defensive back.

“I would be able to come off the edge, be able to guard tight ends and running backs,” Khalil Jacobs told On3’s Auburn Live coming off the visit. ” I like that because I feel like those are my best assets. Some schools want me to play mike (linebacker) to the field and be in the box, but I feel like I’m a stinger and can play in space and blitz off the edge.”

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker tested the portal this winter after South Alabama head coach Kane Wommack took the defensive coordinator job at Alabama.

The Tide have a loaded linebacker room, headlined by Deontae Lawson and Jihaad Campbell . The duo combined for 133 tackles in 2023. Jacobs has played in 24 career games and would be an experienced addition. Alabama has keyed on certain athletes in the spring portal. The Tide have landed Lou Groza award-winner Graham Nicholson and Kadyn Proctor , who decided to transfer back after a few months at Iowa . Alabama also picked up a commitment from Charlotte safety Kameron Howard , who posted 38 tackles, one pass breakup and two interceptions as a true freshman in 2023.

Missouri has been in the market for a linebacker since the spring window opened. The Tigers lost out on former Michigan transfer and Charlotte linebacker Nikhai Hill-Green , who committed to Colorado . Auburn has picked up some key pieces on the defensive side of the ball in the portal.
