College Football News is busy putting out postseason projections long before the first game of the regular season is play. Penn State will make the College Football Playoff for the first time if the outlet’s prediction is right. If so, they will be the No. 10 seed and play at No. 7 Texas in the opening round of the 12-team tournament.

“This all comes down to whether or not Texas can with the early showdown against Michigan in Ann Arbor,” the CFN staff writes . “Pull that off on September 7th, and all will be fine during a relatively easy run before running into Georgia . A loss to Texas A&M at the end of the regular season keeps the Longhorns out of the SEC Championship, but they still land the 7 ahead of the Wolverines.

“Penn State goes on a hot run to start the season, but a midseason loss at USC and a home defeat to Ohio State are just enough to get a road game in the College Football Playoff. Getting in won’t be a problem, but there won’t be enough impressive wins to push past the 10 seed.”

Penn State is No. 9 in the preseason USA Today Coaches Poll. The Associated Press will release its first top 25 next Monday at Noon ET.

    Quote of the day

“I feel like I was a little timid last year. I was tiptoeing a lot back there once I returned the ball, and I wasn’t being myself, I don’t feel like. But, now that I’m used to everything, used to people in college running full speed at me, and once I see a seam, I just got to trust myself and trust my God given abilities to make something happen. And I feel like I’m definitely going to do that.

“You just got to trust the other 10 guys on the punt return unit to do their job. And, all you need is one crease. You got to make the first guy miss. Then, after that, you just got to go.”

–PSU redshirt junior Kaden Saunders on aiming to return to the team’s primary punt returner role.
