Many great Florida Gators football teams were built with talent from South Florida.

Decades ago, Coral Gables High was a pipeline to Gainesville. Gator legend Carlos Alvarez , a record-setting All-American receiver, was a North Miami Senior High product. Running back James Jones , a first-round pick, went to Pompano Beach Ely. Miami Springs produced Lomas Brown , probably the greatest offensive lineman in Florida history. National championship running back Fred Taylor is from Glade Central. The list goes on and on and on.

Recruiting victories in south Florida has always been vital to Florida’s success. And that probably won’t ever change. Can the Gators get some run in south Florida with the 2025 class? We think they can. Here’s a look at some of the key targets from that region — and where we think the Gators with each.

FLORIDA GATORS’ SOUTH FLORIDA TARGETS OF NOTE

Name (star rating) Hometown OV Current/UF%
Joshua Moore (4) Pembroke Pines, Fla. 5/31 FLORIDA GATORS COMMIT
    Naeshaun Montgomery (4) Miami, Fla. 5/31 80%
Ben Hanks Jr. (4) Miami, Fla. 6-07 55%
    Ty Jackson (4) Loxahatchee, Fla. 6-14 50%
    Bryce Fitzgerald (4) Miami, Fla. 6-14 35%
Tarvos Alford (4) Vero Beach OHIO STATE COMMIT/15%
Floyd Boucard (3) Miami, Fla. OKLAHOMA COMMIT/15%

*Moore, a top-100 recruit for On3, committed to the Gators in June and says he’s solid. But with Miami and FSU pushing, Florida can’t afford to have a bad season.

*Montgomery calls Florida and LSU his top two ahead of his Aug. 25 commitment. The Gators are a heavy favorite (94%) in the On3 RPM and we really like where they sit.

*Hanks told On3’s Hayes Fawcett that he is set to announce his commitment on Aug. 16. He will choose between Florida , Louisville and Miami . The Gators are favored , but Miami continues to battle and the Cards just might be in this more than people think. Five days out, the arrow is pointing toward Gainesville.

*Florida seems to have made a strong move this calendar year with Jackson, who arguably Is the Gators’ top overall defensive target. He sees a path to play early in Gainesville, has clicked with the staff and thinks Florida has a strong program to help him off the field. This recruitment isn’t expected to end until late in the year but the Gators appear to be a top contender.

*Fitzgerald will announce his commitment next Saturday. Florida probably was the favorite earlier this summer, but last weekend he said FSU and LSU were his top two. Fitzgerald said he has concerns about the stability of Florida’s staff. Regardless of who he picks Aug. 17, he isn’t likely to shut things down.

*Despite Boucard’s commitment to the Sooners, the Gators continue to recruit him. Miami possibly is another program to watch.

*Alford told Gators Online last week he continues to talk to the Gators a “little bit.” Because of that, we’ll continue to monitor his recruitment. (Obviously, he’s north of Palm Beach County, which many define as the northern edge of south Florida, but for the purposes of this articles, Alford is close enough).
