The Michigan Wolverines have added Class of 2025 guard Jessica Fields to its women’s basketball recruiting class, which should add some intrigue for those steeped in the U-M/Ohio State rivalry.

Fields is the sister of former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields (2018-19), who is now a member of the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fields explained the decision to On3’s Talia Goodman :

“Michigan was great. Coach Justine [Raterman] got me in contact with them because she was at Marquette , and I’ve been in contact with them for four years,” Fields said. “We originally reached out because that’s where my brother was living and we kind of wanted to go to school close to him. When she moved to Michigan, she brought me up to them… I think they were actually one of the last schools to actually give me an offer, but I knew what they had to offer academically and their program has been pretty good. The girls were super nice and we had a little game night, so I got a good feel of the team dynamics and the culture.”

Fields is the second member of head coach Kim Barnes Arico’s 2025 class along with McKenzie Mathurin, who committed on Wednesday.

Orji — who appeared No. 13 on The Athletic‘s list of the biggest ‘freaks’ in college football — has always impressed with his athleticism, and he’s continuing to do so. Senior EDGE TJ Guy laughed this week when asked about defending Orji, saying the signal-caller gives the defenders extra “conditioning” while he’s using his legs in team drills. Graduate safety Quinten Johnson mentioned Orji first among the quarterbacks that are giving the defense issues in practice, too, saying that his “ability to run” presents “a difficult style of football you got to play against.”
