Penn State news, notes, and updates for Aug. 14 include what we learned on a busy Tuesday for the Nittany Lions, headlines of the day, and more. It’s time to dive into Wednesday’s top tweets and stories about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

The Nittany Lions are through two weeks of preseason camp. Head coach James Franklin held his latest media availability on Tuesday following yet another practice. The biggest news to come out of it came on the final question. The 11th-year leader of the Penn State program revealed that freshman receiver Peter Gonzalez is dealing with a “long-term” injury. The nature of it was not disclosed. But, it’s not a short-term setback for the former three-star who received good reviews before drills started.

We also heard that receivers Harrison “Trey” Wallace III and Liam Clifford are setting the pace in a crowded position room where numerous players are fighting for time. BWI publisher Sean Fitz touched on that development in his Monday notes, which BWI subscribers can read here .

“The receivers’ improvement, but specifically Trey and Liam, I think has been pretty good,” Franklin said.

The other notable development on Tuesday was on the recruiting front. Three-star running back Kiandrea Barker is no longer part of the program’s Class of 2025.

“I have been committed to PSU for two years and feel that I should open up my recruitment,” Barker wrote on Twitter. “I think it’s best for me to see other places to considering I only took one official visit.” The senior went on to thank the Lions and Franklin for “their continued support.”

    Quote of the day

“Coach (JaJuan) Seider (running backs) and Coach (Charles) Walker (running backs assistant) have been showing me love since early this year. Their coaching style definitely sticks out to me. I’ve visited twice and each time they made me feel like the priority. Along with that Penn State has been dominant in the Big Ten, always watched them on Saturdays growing up. So having the opportunity to play there is a huge blessing.”
