Ole Miss commit Shekai Mills-Knight quickly became a household name after a Division II-AAA state title game performance last December. The Baylor School (Tenn.) four-star prospect ran for 134 yards and a touchdown, capping off an abbreviated junior season. Despite an ankle injury and a few missed games, the Ole Miss commit still managed over 1,200 all-purpose yards.

On3’s director of scouting and rankings, Charles Power, is a big fan of Mills-Knight. In fact, he and the rest of the scouting and rankings department value his junior season performance.

“He’s a really intriguing running back prospect and one we’re very excited to see watch as a senior,” Power said. “He has a really good combination of size and play speed. Based on everything we’ve seen, the arrow is pointing up.”

In the latest On300 rankings release, Mills-Knight landed at No. 237. He’s the 19th-ranked running back and No. 7 recruit in the state of Tennessee.

A lot of what goes into ranking high school prospects is how they translate to the NFL.

“The flashes we’ve seen are very exciting and we’re bullish on his translatable skills,” Power said. “His pure athletic traits and physical traits, he’s a guy who can get downhill, run through contact, tough to tackle and can change direction at a high rate for such a bigger back.”

Power goes on to say, despite the small high school sample size, Mills-Knight is someone who Ole Miss could see on the field sooner rather than later.

“This is a get that can pay dividends for Ole Miss,” Power said. “We moved him into the On300 this offseason and his ranking is one of the more volatile ones and has a lot of upside to move up if he plays really well as senior.

“Ole Miss has done a great job at running back under Lane Kiffin and Shekai Mills-Knight is another great get for the Rebels.”
