The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2024 Oklahoma football season. Fans have been waiting for what feels like forever with this one. The Sooners are finally and officially joining the SEC.

The 2023 season was a rebound one for head coach Brent Venables , getting the program back to its standard. OU went 10-3 in Venables’ second season, now it’s time for year No. 3.

Crimson Countdown: No. 12 Brendan Zurbrugg

2023 stats : (High School) 156-232 for 2,322 yards 26 touchdowns along with 1,038 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns on 150 carries.

2024 outlook : Zurbrugg is a player that often gets overlooked from the Sooners 2024 class. But his rushing numbers and impressive track numbers make it clear there’s a lot more to him than some may expect.

That being said, no one should expect 2024 to be more than a year for Zurbrugg to fill out his lean frame and continue to add strength. There’s potential in his game but some time to learn the offense and a no-pressure environment could see him grow considerably over the next 12 months.

2024 quarterback outlook

There’s a new QB1 in Norman and his name is Jackson Arnold. The sophomore takes over for Dillon Gabriel, now at Oregon. And the expectations couldn’t be higher for the former five-star. OU’s season will largely hinder on how well Arnold performs. But the Sooners have more than Arnold, as the room has totally reformed in recent years. Former Texas, Nebraska and FAU quarterback Casey Thompson transferred to OU to be a savvy, veteran backup. While freshmen Michael Hawkins and Brendan Zurbrugg are also competing for roles next season.
