With Penn State already securing commitments from three Top 100 prospects for the Class of 2026, head coach James Franklin and his staff couldn’t have asked for a better start. The early 2026 Team Rankings reflect that, with the Nittany Lions currently ranked No. 3 in the nation behind only Oregon and Auburn.

So, which of Penn State’s six commits stands out to our staff the most so far? Blue White Illustrated’s Sean Fitz and Ryan Snyder give their thoughts in our latest ‘Ask Around.’

Who’s the best get so far in Penn State’s Class of 2026?

Ryan Snyder: Plenty to pick from early in Penn State’s class

This is a tough one because I can make a strong case for three players in particular. If you follow our coverage closely, you should know by now that both Sean and I are very high on Harrisburg offensive lineman Kevin Brown . I think he could end up being not only five-star player, but also someone who could make an impact at Penn State relatively quickly. That’s not easy to do for offensive linemen.

But the Nittany Lions also hold a commitment from California quarterback Troy Huhn . The Mission Hills prospect has already proven that his arm talent is among the best in the class. Landing elite players at that position is important, and Huhn could end up being one of the top five or so quarterbacks in his class.

With that said, I’m actually going to pick someone else for this and go with Delaware wide receiver Jahsiear Rogers . The Appoquinimink prospect may only hold a three-star rating currently, but his athleticism is on a different level. His route running reminds me a lot of freshman wide receiver Tyseer Denmark who’s currently earning plenty of praise out of preseason camp – but Rogers also has a different gear from a speed perspective. That was evident this summer when he ran a 4.3-second 40.

Athletically, there’s no denying he’ll be one of the best receivers in the region for the 2026 class. I think once scouts at every network are able to watch his growth as a junior, Rogers has the opportunity to rocket up the rankings. No position has grabbed the attention of Penn State fans like a wide receiver in recent years, and while he still has two years of high school remaining, I think Rogers has the potential to be a true difference-maker.

Sean Fitz: Stick with what got us here

Ever since I watched him camp in July of 2023, I’ve come away thinking that Kevin Brown may be the best high school offensive line prospect I’ve seen in person. There are several candidates in that pool, as I’m sure Cooper Cousins would like a word, but Brown is special. And getting him locked up this early in the cycle is a double bonus.

I was preparing for, maybe not the long haul, but something that went longer than the summer before his junior season. He has all the offers he needs and visited a bunch of schools in the process. In the end, or what we hope is the end, he decided to go with James Franklin , Phil Trautwein and the Nittany Lions. It was over before it really even got off the ground, and that’s great for the Nittany Lions.

So he’s an in-state potential five-star at a premium position. Can’t do much better than that. Brown has the athleticism to play offensive tackle, even if he’s borderline on measurements for the edge. He’s built up the right way and knows how the football world works thanks to his family background.

Is an offensive lineman ever a sure thing? Of course not. But Brown is a prospect worth getting excited about. He’s also going to carry a higher profile than most. Cousins didn’t ascend until late in the process. Brown is already there, which is a confidence-builder for other prospective commits. Having a nucleus of Brown, Huhn and Messiah Mickens (Rogers will join them soon, I believe) at the top of the commit list is a big deal.
