Duke schedules charity exhibition vs. Bobby Hurley, Arizona State

A familiar face will return to Cameron Indoor Stadium in October as Arizona State ‘s men’s basketball team led by head coach and former Duke player Bobby Hurley will be visiting the Blue Devils for a charity exhibition game. As the Sun Devils will go up against Duke on October 27 in the ‘Brotherhood Run’ Charity Game, an event that will benefit the Duke Children’s Hospital.

Both head coaches in the matchup are former Duke players who helped lead their respective teams to national titles. With Hurley playing point guard for the Blue Devils from 1989 to 1993 and Duke head coach Jon Scheyer playing for Duke from 2006 to 2010.

“We are excited about the Brotherhood Run, playing Arizona State for a charity exhibition game. This is the first time we’ve done something like this,” said Scheyer. “Duke Children’s Hospital has been a great partner to our program for a long time, starting with Coach K, and to keep that relationship going means a lot to me and to our program. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with them to raise funds and awareness for all the incredible work they are doing.”

Scheyer enters his third season as Duke’s head coach after playing for and coaching alongside college basketball legend Mike Krzyzewski . Selected to the ACC All-Freshman Team, named the 2009 ACC Tournament MVP, and averaging 18.2 points per game as a senior for Duke on their way to the 2010 National Championship.

Hurley was also coached by Krzyzewski and had his No. 11 jersey was retired by the Blue Devils in 1993 after leading Duke to back-to-back National Championship wins in 1991 and 1992. Still standing as Duke’s all-time leader in career assists with the three-highest single assist seasons in program history as well. As the Duke Athletics Hall of Famer will return to a place filled with positive memories for himself and a generation of Blue Devils fans.

“I’m grateful to John Scheyer and Duke Basketball for working with Arizona State Basketball to make this exhibition game a reality,” said Hurley. “It will be special for me to return to Cameron Indoor. Our team is excited for the opportunity to compete against a storied basketball program prior to embarking on our regular season schedule. The collaboration between Duke and Arizona State to put together this charity exhibition game supporting Duke Children’s Hospital is very meaningful to both programs.”

Duke and Arizona State will tip off on Sunday Sunday, October 27 at 6:30 p.m. ET in Cameron Indoor.
