The talk of Tennessee ‘s defensive line lies in arguably the most disruptive EDGE in the country, James Pearce Jr. But he’s not the only player opposing SEC offensive lines should be scouting for.

Joining On3’s Andy Staples, Reese’s Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy discussed the talent of Omarr Norman-Lott . A 6-foot-3, 295-pound defensive tackle, Norman-Lott’s presence in the defensive interior will help anchor the Vols defense this fall.

“Sometimes the cool part of when I post up on social media is the responses I get from either former Senior Bowl players, NFL scouts, or their coaches,” Nagy told Staples . “And I won’t name which coach, but a couple of the guys on the Tennessee staff, after we put I posted some about Norman-Lott, hit me up immediately and are like, ‘Yup, you’re on the right guy.’

“Really athletic, really he is a three technique. That’s what he is. This dude is your your classic upfield, get off the ball, win early three technique. Super disruptive. The clip I showed from last year against Virginia was him chasing backside, down the line of scrimmage, making a play, laying out, making a play, looking super athletic. So yes, Pearce is getting all the headlines. He should. Really cool prospect on the EDGE. But Norman-Lott is a guy you just haven’t seen a lot about … I think by the end of the year, he will be on the post postseason All-SEC teams after we’ve played some games.”

2024 will be Norman-Lott’s second season with the Tennessee program. He spent the first three seasons of his college career at Arizona State and became a regular fixture in the Vols’ defense right away in 2023.

He logged career-high numbers during his first season in Knoxville. Totaling 26 tackles, he logged 5.5 sacks while playing in just nine games last year after battling through some injuries, though he’s expected to have a clean bill of health in time for the 2024 season. Norman-Lott came into the program with 37 total tackles to his credit on his career with four sacks during his time with the Sun Devils.

The second-year Vol will share defensive tackle duties with Omari Thomas , a 320-pound defensive tackle who is expected to be a major issue for centers and guards across the SEC in 2024.

With Tennessee’s defensive line looking as though they’re one of the SEC’s premier units on paper, they’ll look to meet those expectations when they kick off the regular season against Chattanooga on Aug. 31.
