The South Carolina Gamecocks are going into 2024 with a new quarterback in LaNorris Sellers who the program is excited about.

Ahead of the season, Sellers shared his reaction to being named the starter at South Carolina. As he explained, Sellers hasn’t had an attitude shift in practice but he is definitely excited for the opportunity.

“I still go through practice the same way I was,” LaNorris Sellers said . “Practice, all of that, has stayed the same for me, honestly…I’m very excited. You dream about things like this from [being] a kid to now. It’s finally come true. So, I just got to go out there and play.”

A native of Florence, South Carolina, LaNorris Sellers came to the Gamecocks as a four-star recruit in the Class of 2023 , according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the 21st-ranked quarterback and the 353rd-ranked player overall that cycle.

Sellers played in three games last season, retaining his redshirt in the process. In that limited playing time, he completed four of four passes for 86 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown. This past spring, he was named Joe Morrison Offensive Player of the Spring.

Now, going into a season where he’ll be the starter, replacing Spencer Rattler , Sellers shared that his mentality isn’t changing.

“I think you go into it the same way,” Sellers said. “You prepare the same way. Just because last year if something happened you’d need to be prepared but this year you have to be prepared because I’m the guy.”

Sellers also attributed his mentality to his family, who he shared is both excited and nervous for him.

“They prepared me from a young age to take everything one by one, like day by day, pretty much. So, they were excited, obviously,” Sellers said. “They’re kind of nervous. Other than that, it’s still football. I’ve got to go out there and do my job.

Interestingly, South Carolina offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains has his own way of keeping LaNorris Sellers humble. He makes sure to call home and let Sellers’ family know that he sucks .

“She [his grandma] still says it every time she sees me, and he still says it every day he calls my parents, talks to my parents, ‘Like, yeah, he still sucks,’ or whatever,” Sellers said.

LaNorris Sellers will lead South Carolina in his first game on Saturday when the Gamecocks host Old Dominion .
