Jasper Johnson’s commitment ceremony closed to the public

Jasper Johnson ‘s commitment ceremony later this week will be closed to the general public , KSR has confirmed.

Johnson, who will announce his college decision this Thursday, Sept. 5 at 2:15 p.m. EST at Woodford County High School, is down to a trio of options: Kentucky, North Carolina, and Alabama. The original plan was to make the event open to the public, but with school happening at the same time and there being a significant demand from fans to attend, the safest option was to keep it private.

Only close friends, family, students, media members, and the Woodford County High School staff will be allowed to attend. However, KSR will live stream the ceremony on our YouTube channel so you can follow along too.

Johnson’s decision to hold the ceremony at his former high school (he now plays for Overtime Elite in Atlanta) is telling. In recent weeks, recruiting experts have logged several picks in favor of the five-star shooting guard choosing Kentucky. A late push from new head coach Mark Pope has the Wildcats in a great position to land their second class of 2025 commit.

“I feel like Coach Pope has been really pushing to me that I really am one of the best guards in the country, if not the best,” Johnson told KSR in July. “Me being from there, it gives me a plus. He’s really pitching both sides — he wants me to stay home, but he’s also prioritizing me because I’m one of the best players in the country.”
