The Colorado Buffaloes and Nebraska Cornhuskers are set to renew their rivalry on Saturday. It’s a game that is headlined by Colorado head coach Deion Sanders and how he approaches stopping freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola .

A five-star recruit in the Class of 2024 , Raiola earned the starting job for Nebraska in camp and started his first game in Week 1. It’s a game where he managed to impress Sanders.

“You attack weaknesses,” Deion Sanders said . “I don’t know if you attack inexperience. If that’s a weakness, so be it. But the kid made some darn good throws, some pretty good plays. They did some consistent things that we knew they would do within their offense.”

In his first college start against UTEP , Dylan Raiola completed 19 of 27 pass attempts for 238 yards and two touchdowns. Importantly, he showed the ability to push the ball downfield and make smart decisions throughout his time on the field.

“A phenomenal game,” Sanders said. “I mean, it started out back and forth a little bit, but they went ahead and did what they needed to do. I love what he showed in his first college game ever. I love what he showed.”

Dylan Raiola’s own coach, Matt Rhule , felt that there were some good things that he did in his first college game but also saw plenty of room to improve.

“There was some good and there was some bad,” Matt Rhule said . “The best one was he three-way checked the long run by Emmett [Johnson] , right, like he checked it and they kind of moved and he checked it back. So, then he checked it again and got us to that run. So, when you have a freshman that’s checking and reloading things…“There was some other things. Like there was third and two where he heard RPO, the receivers didn’t. So, there were some of those moments.”

Colorado and Nebraska kickoff at 7:30 p.m. EST in Lincoln, Nebraska. This comes after the Buffaloes won this game last season by a score of 36-14. That made for three wins in a row over the Cornhuskers, which is tied with the longest win streak Colorado has in history over Nebraska. Still, Nebraska leads the all-time series 49-21-2.
