Weekend Recruiting Primer: Nebraska, Miami, Auburn, Iowa and Michigan headline big weekends

Nebraska coach Matt Rhule and the second-year staff in Lincoln are working to put an end to seven-straight losing seasons in Lincoln. There is a lot of anticipation around the program that this is the year things start getting back on track.

So with that, there is high hopes heading into Saturday night’s showdown with Colorado.

What an opportunity for Rhule and company. Playing in what will be one of the best atmospheres college football can offer, in front of some of the most passionate fans, a victory would obviously be huge for the trajectory of the football team. A win over the Buffaloes could also help set the tone on the recruiting trail for years to come.

Prior to kickoff the Nebraska staff has an exciting recruiting event planned as they will welcome in many of their most coveted targets in the 2025, 2026 and 2027 classes. They’ll show off a brand new facility that goes toe to toe with any other in America. They’ll walk these prospects out onto the field at Memorial Stadium and have them soak in the pageantry.

Then it will be time to go play well.

On3’s No. 1 ranked athlete Michael Terry III is one of the headliners coming to campus. The San Antonio (Texas) Alamo Heights blue-chipper is down to the Huskers, Texas and Oregon. The Longhorns are the On3 RPM favorite but this will be his third time in Lincoln this year.

“The thing about Nebraska, Nebraska one thing I can say they ain’t giving up,” Terry’s father said. “Out of all of them, Nebraska really stays in contact with him and recruits him the hardest. They stay in contact with us and Nebraska is really recruiting him hard. Not just with him, but all around the country. They’re trying to do what they can to make it different.”

The push for On300 edge and Alabama commit Dawson Merritt continues. This will be his second time in Lincoln since committing to the Crimson Tide. That’s an uphill battle but one a good season could level the playing field on. Nebraska is still swinging at On300 receiver Cortez Mills . The Oklahoma commit is slated to be back as well. Both Mills and Merritt were at the Huskers spring game. That was a great environment but this one on Saturday night will be unique.

As Rhule and company pursue a second-straight Top25 recruit class they’ll bring back many of their commits in the 2025 cycle along with uncommitted four-star linebacker Christian Jones . They’ll also have some major 2026 targets including the country’s No. 1 offensive tackle in Jackson Cantwell , quarterback targets Michael Clayton , Dayton Raiola and Brodie McWhorter , running backs DeZephen Walker and Kaydin Jones and safety Kaedyn Cobbs .

Nebraska isn’t the only program dialing it up on the trail in week two.

Miami building on big win over Florida

Miami coach Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes staff 41-17 victory over Florida this past Saturday should not only build momentum for a playoff push but also towards pushing for a second-straight top five recruiting class.

Currently sitting at No. 13 in the recruiting standings , the Hurricanes hosted top receiver target and Florida commit Joshua Moore on Monday. They’ll have On300 2026 four-star offensive lineman Canon Pickett on campus for Saturday’s home game against Florida A&M. He is the younger brother of true freshman edge Booker Pickett Jr. The Hurricanes will have cousin, five-star cornerback DJ Pickett back for the Florida State game later in the fall. With Cristobal leading the charge they’re certainly trying to get the state’s No. 1 recruit and On3’s No. 1 cornerback on campus a couple other times.

2025 linebacker Kellen Wiley is becoming a top target for Miami this fall. Recently offered, he’ll be in Coral Gables. Wiley will be surrounded by several already committed including On300 defensive backs Hylton Stubbs and Jaboree Antoine and running back Girard Pringle .

Other On300 2026 prospects expected include linebacker Malik Morris and defensive back Jaelen Waters who is committed to Florida.

Auburn aims to keep it rolling

For a second-straight Saturday, it would’t be surprising to see Notre Dame quarterback commit Deuce Knight back on The Plains for the game against California. He was there for the win over Alabama A&M this past Saturday night and Auburn continues to trend to flip the country’s No. 7 quarterback and No. 33 prospect overall.

On300 linebacker Tyler Lockhart was at Mississippi State last weekend. Auburn is the On3 RPM favorite to get the four-star back in the fold.

Top-ranked edge in five-star Anthony Jones and four-star linebacker Anthony Davis are a couple 2026s that have already confirmed their plans to be at Auburn.

    This list will certainly grow.

New predictions for Iowa ahead of rivalry game with Iowa State

At Iowa, the Hawkeyes will bring back many of their commits for the in-state battle against Iowa State. They’ll also bring in several 2026s they’re in great shape for.

That list includes a pair of new On3 RPM predictions in Iowa City (Iowa) West teammates in outside linebacker target Julian Manson and offensive lineman Colin Whitters . The Hawkeyes are in the top two for quarterback target Cash Herrera who is coming with a lot of family. 2026 offensive lineman Gene Riordan is a prospect Iowa is in great shape for, same goes for 2026 tight end Roman Voss . On300 defensive tackle Gabriel Hill is also expected. Key 2027s slated to be there include legacy recruit On300 athlete Jaxx DeJean , On300 receiver Landon Blum and On300 tight end Luke Brewer .

Top prospects headed to Michigan for Texas game

Michigan will have a slew of prospects inside the Big House for the Top 10 showdown with Texas.

On3’s No. 1 ranked 2026 running back Javian Osborne is the headliner. On300 2026 offensive linemen Gregory Patrick and Will Conroy will also be back. So will On300 2026 receiver CJ Sadler . A few tight ends the Wolverines are high on include Brayden Fogle , Lincoln Keyes and Jack Janda in the 2026 class and On300 recruits Holden Niemi and Anthony Cartwright in 2027. On300 2026 receiver Travis Johnson and On300 defensive lineman Jermaine Kinsler are a couple other touted prospects.

Michigan has an offer out to 2027 quarterback Trae Taylor who’s been to campus numerous times in the past. Receiver Jaylen Pile , edge CJ Edwards , linebacker Kaden Carter and defensive back Jordan Thomas are a few other 2026s to know.

Cass Tech 2028 quarterback Donald Tabron will be in Ann Arbor. He’s been offered. More 2027 receivers include the On3 Industry No. 2 ranked receiver Dakota Guerrant and Kesean Bowman . 2026 offensive lineman Kannon Smith has a Michigan offer.

The state’s No. 1 2027 prospect in edge Regarder Kitchen is a healdiner. Michigan is the early On3 RPM favorite for 2027 edge rusher Antwoine Higgins .

Michigan has On3’s No. 15 ranked recruiting class in 2025. Defensive back Ivan Taylor , receiver Andrew Marsh , tight end Eli Owens , offensive lineman Avery Gach , edge Julius Holly and defensive lineman Bobby Kanka will be back.

    Looking for flips in Lexington

Kentucky is putting the finishing touches on a recruiting class On3 ranks No. 23 nationally heading into Saturday’s game against South Carolina.

They’re looking for a few flips at this point in the cycle.

Greer (SC) Riverside On300 tight end Mikkel Skinner has been a verbal to Cincinnati since early June but visited Lexington at the end of July and returns this weekend on an official visit. Vince Marrow has been leading the charge in recruiting Skinner.

“I love him,” Skinner said. “Like love him.

“Have a lot in common. And he’s just a cool guy. I would be away from my family so him itself just makes it feel like home and acts just like my pops.”

Kentucky is the On3 RPM favorite to flip the four-star Skinner who is also looking at South Carolina. He visited the Gamecocks last weekend. Now he’ll watch two of his favorites battle on the field.

Kentucky safeties coach Frank Buffano and the Wildcats haven’t given up on Missouri safety commit Dyllon Williams . The Demopolis (Ala.) High standout is currently committed to Missouri. He gave the Tigers a verbal in June.

Fairfield (Ohio) Hamilton athlete Noah King gave Kansas State a verbal at the end of July. Marrow and the Wildcats are picking things up again this fall. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound King has been to Lexington a couple times in the past where he was offered by Marrow and Brad White. He’s very familiar with the program and it wouldn’t be surprising if he popped up on campus again this fall. Perhaps this weekend.

Warren (Ohio) Harding’s Chaz Coleman is a 6-foot-5, 205-pound jumbo athlete that plays quarterback on the prep level but could play a number of positions on the next level. Kentucky has turned it up for Coleman and will be excited to see him inside Kroger Field.

Many of Kentucky’s commits will be back including class jewels in edge Cedric Works , defensive lineman Javeon Campbell , running back Marquise Davis , receivers Quintin Simmons and Preston Bowman and quarterback Brennen Ward . Offensive lineman Tucker Kattus will also return.

    Quick Hitters

USC has a pair of official visits in electric On300 receiver Jerome Myles and On3’s No. 1 ranked linebacker Ty Jackson . The Trojans aim to make a move on Utah and Texas A&M among others for Myles. Jackson’s favorites include Florida, Florida State, Alabama and Penn State.

NC State has a neutral site Top25 showdown against Tennessee and they’ll pack the stands. Included will be On300 safety Jordan Young who they have On3 RPM steam for ahead of his commitment later this month. A terrific group of 2026s will be there including On300 offensive linemen Ekene Ogboko and Leo Delaney along with linebacker Thomas Davis Jr. , receivers Brody Keefe and Jordon Gidron , edge rusher Zavion Griffin-Haynes and touted twin defensive linemen Aiden Harris and Alden Harris . The Wolfpacker has more here.

On300 edge Chase Linton is expected at Georgia after watching the Bulldogs roll Clemson in the season opening neutral site game. UGA is the heavy On3 RPM favorite.

Notable visitors slated to be at Texas A&M include On3’s No. 2 ranked receiver Aaron Gregory , the No. 3 edge per the On3 Industry Jordan Carter and On300 prospects in defensive tackle Trashawn Ruffin and receiver Tyreek King .

On300 2026 defensive lineman Braeden Jones will be on campus at Wisconsin this weekend.

As always stay tuned to updates to this story.
